Martin Luther King, Jr. is an American icon, a civil rights leader who stood for justice, equality, and human decency. His legacy continues to inspire generations to fight for a better, more just world. In 1986, eighteen years after his tragic passing, the United States officially declared the third Monday of January as Martin Luther King (MLK) Day, also known as Civil Rights Day in several states.

In cities throughout the United States, MLK day is celebrated by partnering with local organizations to strengthen communities. From mentoring youth to organizing food drives, to cleaning up parks, thousands of Americans honor Dr. King's vision by dedicating a day to community involvement.
