In tribute to IWD, I present to you, seven formidable women of the 20th century.

  1. Amelia Earhart
    Amelia Earhart made aviation history by being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
  2. Althea Gibson
    Althea Gibson was the first African American to play tennis at Wimbledon.
  3. Dolores Huerta
    A living legend, Dolores Huerta is an organizer of labor rights, especially in Latino communities, since the 1950s, Dolores is famous for coining the phrase, “Si, se puede!” (“Yes, we can!”)
  4. Marie Curie
    Marie Curie is the first-ever female winner of the Nobel Prize.
  5. Sandra Day O’Connor
    Sandra Day O’Connor is the first woman to serve as a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
  6. Madeleine Albright
    Madeleine Albright was the first-ever female U.S. Secretary of State.
  7. Margaret Sanger
    Margaret Sanger is the mother of the modern day movement for birth control.
